Mental Health First Aid England

Case Study

Mental Health First Aid England (MHFAE) are a social enterprise. They offer training and consultancy to transform mental health in the workplace and beyond. MHFAE’s mission is to train 1-in-10 people in mental health awareness and skills.

The challenge

As MHFAE were thinking about their future growth and operating model plans, they recognised a potentially changing but as yet uncertain external landscape and a number of key and inter-related questions about their future model that needed to be addressed.

MHFAE’s CEO, Simon Blake, wanted help clarifying the potential future external scenarios, the options the business could take and implications for the organisation’s future plans.

What did we do?

Following 1-2-1 interviews with the Exec team, a review of relevant internal documents and desk-based research we developed frameworks for future legislative and market scenarios, and translating MHFAE’s future ambition into what this meant and options for the future model.

We then held interactive-workshops with the Exec team to agree the scenarios, ambition, future model and implications, and key actions to be taken. A full write-up of the strategic narrative, alongside immediate actions for the team was provided for Simon and his team to incorporate into their detailed change planning.

What was the outcome?

The Exec team were clearer on how their ambition translated into the goals and actions to deliver it and were aligned on the products and services and operating model options they wanted to pursue.

 Mental Health First Aid England

Alyson provided strategic support for the Executive team at MHFA England. From day one, Alyson worked hard to get to know the organisation and the Executive. Alyson’s deft and insightful facilitation of our thinking, combined with her strategic clarity, was a gift that has fundamentally shaped the way we think and understand the business, the choices we make, and the way we communicate. I would definitely work with Alyson again when I need this type of strategic consultancy support.
